Memories Of Another Time......On Navada Stree.

A good friend Linda and I headed in to Oregon Ohio to visit with Karen and her mother Twila. We had a lovely visit and a yummy lunch. Karen made a keish that was wonderful and I will add the recipe at the end of this post.
It was fun reminiscing with Twila about Nevada St, the people who lived there and the neighborhood. And how the neighborhood has changed over the years. Now remember I graduated from
H.S. in 1961, it was a time when I could walk to school and have no fear. It was a wonderful time to grow up and times were different then they are now. The east side of Toledo has changed on Nevada St although there are still some very nice neighborhoods and some very well keep homes. I can not say the same for the home where I grew up and it was a very sad awakening when Linda and I went to visit Nevada St.
I wanted to take a picture of the homestead to share with
you and and a lady in the back yard looked out at me. I walked back to explain why I was taking a picture. I told her that it was the home I was raised in and I just wanted to see it again. All at once the tears started flowing because it was in such poor shape and so runned down. I though of all the pride my parent's took in this home and I came very emotional. I did not ask to see the inside because that would have really upset me. They were a young couple that bought the house two years ago and I guess just did not care about the home or how it looked.

I then took a picture of where Karen was raised right across the street and that home is in very good condition so I was happy about that.
I told Linda how surprised I was that I got so upset.......but the memories of how my house used to be and how it is has become now was a shock for me to say the least.

Now on to the rest of the day. Karen and Mark's home was beautiful and so well planned. Twila sold her condo and has her own addition to the new home. It was wonderful to see Twila again and to see Karen and remember that she was the little girl across the street. Karen had a wonderful lunch made for us and I will put the recipe on tomorrows blog. I ran out of time for today. Every one please say a prayer for Amy of Four sisters and a cottage. She had surgery yesterday and my thoughts and well wishes are with her and her family. Also I would like every one to sign my guest book, it is such fun puting a name with the face of all the lovely lady's in blog land The guest book is down a post or two. And the picture I put in the guest book of me is a picture of me a few years back.......it was a glamour shot as you can tell. Every one have a lovely day and take time to remember where you use to live and the little girl across the street. Sharon K

I just hate it that you had tears in your eyes...it makes me sad
:(
I've felt that way about my Hubby's grandmother's house after she passed away...the new people tore out all her pretty flowers and bushes...it was just a crying shame and never the same after that...
I think you glamour shot is very pretty! I have said I'm going to get one done myself someday but I've never done it...
take care (((hugs)))

They say you can never go home again. The house was there, but it was your family that made it a home, and that is why it didn't feel the same.
I went back once to see places I had lived, and apart from the happy memories, they were just shells, no longer my old home as I remembered them.
hugsx

I went back to the house I grew up in and I was so terribly upset with the condition it was in that I cried, too. After that I have decided I will never return to see any homes I've lived in because I just want to keep the wonderful memories of them in my heart:o) BTW, I really enjoyed your guestbook ~ that is such a neat idea!!

A nice trip down Memory Lane. Except for the condition of the house you grew up in. -sigh-

I consider myself lucky in that my growing up home still looks very well looked after. It's not the same as it was, way back, of course. But it looks like the family takes care of it.

'Course mine is just about 15 min. drive away.. A tiny village, over from the city we've lived in for all our married life. So I am able to drive by it, once in a while. But I don't have any idea who owns it now...

I am so sorry that seeing it upset you. I too know how this feels and it IS hard. You have such sweet memories
so hold on to them and the house will
stay just as it was forever...in your heart.

Hugs,
Sue

As others have said, life goes on, and you never know what is in store for your former home. Perhaps this family will one day sell it to a different family who will love it and care for it. It's a thought, anyway. :)
