The Rest Of The Story...........

A few months ago I was visiting a blog and the post was the start of a mystery story. I will start the story and ins ted of a comment it would be fun if each of you would keep the story going. You know we are all story tellers so lets see how the story develops.

The Myesery Of The Lost Glasses.
It was a warm summer day and the lady of the house could not find her glasses, she needed them to read the morning paper. She got her cup of tea and went from room to room looking every where she had been. At this moment she heard a strange sound out side her window and wanted to set the alarm at her door. Then she remembered that she did not have those glasses that she would need to set the alarm. What would she do, as she moved the sounds were closer and she lived in a wooded area with not many homes around. A day that started out like every other had now turned in to a moment of panic. Her name was Emily and she thought that she............

...was now going to lose her reputation for being the calm and cool one in her family.
Her husband and two teenagers, Roy and Anne, were far in the hills at the moment on a week-long camping trip. They might have well been across the world to Emily since they had set up camp in an unknown location- with no cell phone access.

But SHE had a cell phone!

She eased over across the room towards her purse, and shakily retrieved it. But who should she call? 911?
Suddenly, a clamor irrupted right outside the window. She nearly jumped to the ceiling, but after a second, she found the courage to pull open to the drapes to try to catch a glimpse in the early morning light of the possible intruder.
With cell phone in hand, she....

What was suppose to be a quiet time for her with her favorite book, was now the most frantic time of her life. There it goes again..darn if she could only find her glasses..was she really afraid or was the fact that she was alone and couldn't see..by the way where was that cat of hers. She hadn't seen her in awhile...there was a knocking on the window..or was it a branch??? Whatever she was going to call 911..but Emily thought again..about it being nothing,,and would just look for her glasses..and then.....

she remembered that she had that extra pair of magnifying glasses in the bathroom. Maybe she should hurry and get those. She practically flew through the house, arriving at the bathroom and grabbing the glasses up and onto her face. Trouble was, they were only good for very close up reading. Off she went though to set the alarm, her heart thudding at every breath she took. Everything was so quiet now she was more afraid than ever. Just as she reached the alarm...

She heard a voice calling her name from outside the window. "Emily, Emily, are you in there? Please please let me in! I need help and you're the only one I could turn to!"
Emily parted the curtains just slightly and to her surprise there stood...

her neighbor from down the road. She looked so distraught that Emily knew something horrible had happened. She ran to the door and undid the latch and as she opened the door much to her horror....

...she saw her dear elderly neighbor,
Bertie, covered with bits of damp, crushed leaves, broken twigs and
something quite dark and gooey resembling molasses. In her arms she held what seemed to be the shattered remains of a porcelain vessel of some kind. With tears streaming down her bruised and dirtied face, Bertie cried out, "Emily! Help me. I think I may have killed the poor thing!"
Bertie held the broken piece out and begged Emily to see what she could do. Em took a deep breath,
said a silent prayer for strength and, with a knot forming in her stomach, looked inside. But it just can not be! It can't be real...can it be?
Fear was quickly replaced with
overwhelming curiosity. She slowly reached inside and, with one finger, gently touched this strange
creature. Oh Bertie! She is breathing!! She is alive! But Bertie, is she what I think she is?
Bertie, still in shock, could barely muster a nod. Well then, let's be quick. We must not let any one else see her!
Bring her inside and let's see what we can do for her.
Oh Emily! We must help her, Bertie
wailed. There are so few of her kind left. She is one of only....

the very rarest of faeries that she had once read about and seen a picture of. Could it really be true, that Bertie had found one while taking her walk in the woods as she did on a daily basis? But why was Bertie so dirty and dishevelled...what had happened out there in the woods? She asked Bertie what had happened but Bertie could only say, come with me I'll show you! Emily needed her lost glasses to be able to see the path, these magnifying glasses she had on would only slow her down since she could only see close with them. What on earth had she done with her glasses? She then looked at the barely breathing faerie laying there. Hmmmm she thought, faeries are known to take items from humans. Could this one have taken her glasses? Suddenly the little faerie moaned and opened her eyes.......

...would never survive the moment. Every step she took toward the alarm, seemed like a lifetime and her heart was nearly pounding out of her chest. She would just have to try to set the alarm without her glasses on. Suddenly she stumbled on the large area rug and started to go down, but grabbed the coat rack to help break the fall. In the process, her glasses slid down over her face. They had been resting on top of her head! Heart racing, she managed to pull herself up and continue the long journey (which really wasn't far at all) to the alarm. Just as she reached her destiny and reached her hands out to begin setting the alarm , she heard the horrifying 'click' of a doorknob turning.

and just with barely a breathe left, she said "Yes" and Emily knew exactly where she had laid her glasses. They were inside the book she wanted to read. She hurried to find her glasses to see if she could help the little one more....

....time. The moral of the story about the missing glasses........is always wear your glasses and watch out for the alarming things that can happen when you are alone in the house with heavy wind and a cat at your feet and a fairy or two flying around. Also the noise she heard was the family coming home from the camping trip early...........now you know the rest of the story. THE END.

P.S. But it was not the end of the story...What had happened to her neighbor( Bertie )and her cat? Remember Bertie had gone outside to show her what had happen? Her cat she had not seen all evening. Why had her family come home early? Still holding the tiny fairy, knowing that they loved sweet flower nectar, perhaps some sweet tea would revive her? She went to the kitchen to put the kettle on. But that was strange, the back door was standing wide open. Muddy foot prints were all over the floor.
Just then her family came running in, Mom! Mom! the .....

dream faded as Emily slowly became aware that she had fallen asleep in her favorite chair while reading another of those funny "Cat Who..." mysteries. Dreams sure were funny things. Why, she didn't even know anyone named Bertie, and she was severely allergic to cats! As for the fairy, well, that was simply preposterous.

While she listened to her children's excited chatter about the flash flood warnings that had cut short their trip and lovingly greeted her husband, Emily realized that one thing about the dream was true: she couldn't find her glasses!
